The Australian Design Honours

The Australian Design Centre is proud to present the Australian Design Honours — a little black book of leading Australian designers, thinkers and innovators, and a go-to guide for the game-changing names you need to know.

From their new home in the William Street creative hub in Sydney, they’re throwing the spotlight on some of Australia’s brightest design champions, from household names to up-and-coming stars.

In May, they honoured the first 50 design champions, with 150 more to be revealed before the end of the year. This handpicked selection of exceptional and pioneering creative activists, digital engagers, spatial thinkers, and object makers, represent the breadth and scale of talent in Australian design.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore was there to officially open the new home and to launch the Honours program. “The Australian Design Honours will celebrate the designers, architects and industry supporters who have helped put Sydney on the global map for innovation.

“It’s fitting these awards are being launched by Australia’s leading centre for contemporary design, Object, which has championed Sydney’s creative talent since 1965.”

Director Steven Pozel said Object was looking forward to continuing to support and showcase Australia’s remarkable design sector.

“Our 50th anniversary is an exciting opportunity to celebrate Object’s history but it is also time to look to the future in our new multi-purpose space,” Mr Pozel said.

In the first 50 line up are some of the big names in Australian design including: Akira Isogawa, Louise Olsen & Stephen Ormandy (Dinosaur Designs), Vince Frost, Les Blakebrough, Robert Foster, Dr Brandon Gien, Jon Goulder, Marian Hosking, Klaus Moje AO, and Hetti Perkins.
