With its original location in Dublin, urban restaurant, Bunsen, has selected a Gothic building to be its home for its first international opening in Barcelona.
Design studio, Mesura borrowed from the architecture and detailing of the city’s Gothic quarter to create the interiors of this burger bar.
The restaurant has incorporated recognizable features of the surrounding neighbourhood and local bar culture into its interior design from arches to detailed tiling as well as a curved a ceramic bench which sits along the walls of the space.
Mesura borrowed from other eras in design for the interiors blending together elements that are reminiscent of local neighbourhood eateries and diners, such as walls lined with curtains and bespoke seating.
Mesura says, “Looking around Barcelona’s Gothic quarter, we find very few straight lines. The neighbourhood is a maze of narrow streets that give to unexpected squares displaying a miscellaneous collection of arches and curved formations. They are the depositories of the cultural inheritance of Catalonia we find all over the region’s landscape – not only in public areas, but also inside houses, museums, hotels, or in this case, a restaurant.”
Bunsen reportedly has plans to open more restaurants in the city.
