Engineered stone surfaces are made up of high quantities of crystalline silica. When these materials are worked on, for example, by sanding, cutting, or drilling, respirable crystalline silica is released as a very fine dust. Inhalation of silica is hazardous and well-documented to cause silicosis and numerous respiratory disorders. Long-term inhalation of silica dust can lead to a lung disease that can be fatal.

Staron Solid Surface, one of Austaron Surfaces’ offerings, is well-recognised for its silica-free composition and has been specified globally since 1992. Manufactured from refined bauxite, impurities are removed to deliver a mineral that is free of silica.
