How Metricon Homes is Ensuring New Buildings Comply with NCC 2022
Metricon Homes has released a range of ways it ensures all buildings comply with the new National Construction Code (NCC) which took effect in Queensland and Victoria on 1 May 2024. There were 400 designs carried out nationally right after the May deadline that the home builder re-designed to ensure each one complied with the new standards.

The NCC 2022 mandates higher efficiency standards for homes, aiming for a 7-Star Energy Rating, reducing energy use, emissions and costs.
Every Metricon design offered in Victoria now has increased insulation throughout its external walls and ceilings, solar panels installed, improved shading through eaves and outdoor areas, and optimised glazing with smarter windows, better frames and glass options.
Metricon Homes design director Adrian Popple says the change in regulations allowed Metricon to examine the designs with fresh eyes: “We have reinvigorated our product range and every home has been thoughtfully redesigned to incorporate the NCC 2022 Modern Homes standards, making our homes more accessible, energy-efficient and comfortable.”
These improvements include features such as step-free dwelling access, wider internal doors and hallways, ground-level toilets with increased circulation space, step-free showers for enhanced mobility and reinforced walls around selected key areas like toilets, showers and baths to facilitate easy installation of grab rails if required in the future.
The newly designed Metricon homes will have even lower internal moisture (humidity) and condensation levels, reducing the risk of mould and delivering enhanced indoor air quality.
Metricon is also working with suppliers to keep the costs of the new initiatives as low as possible. To achieve this, Metricon aims to balance the energy homes use versus the energy generated.
