Natural stone is the defining feature of the Aimasia Residence in Elia, Mykonos, with Greek company Stonetech supplying and fabricating marble and other surfaces throughout the expansive home.
Clean volumes, earthy tones, and a seamless integration with the hillside are anchored by a material palette that prioritises both clarity and permanence.
Designed by A31 Architecture with interiors by Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio and landscape design by Archetopo, the project presents a contemporary reading of Cycladic architecture.
The kitchen and bathrooms form the core expression of this stone-led approach. Within the bathrooms, Pentelikon Marble was applied in honed and brushed finishes across cladding, vanities, and custom furniture. The choice highlights the stone’s soft tonal character while offering durability in wet zones. In select outdoor bathing and pool areas, Pentelikon was reinterpreted in a sandblasted finish, enhancing its tactile qualities while meeting performance needs.
A contrasting layer was introduced through Nero Granite, specified in combined sandblasted and brushed finishes. The granite was employed across floors, integrated vanities, wall claddings, wash basins, and a dedicated hammam space, lending the bathrooms a sense of grounded strength. Skiros Marble provided further nuance, polished for statement vanities and sandblasted for exterior pool tile surfaces.
The spa experience within the residence was heightened by the introduction of Tinos Green Marble in a honed finish with a hand-chiselled edge. This feature wall brings a bold focal point to the wellness areas, balancing refinement with artisanal detailing. For exterior pool decking and tiling, Naxos Marble in a bush-hammered finish ensures a non-slip surface without compromising the visual coherence of the stone language.
Every surface selection was coordinated to maintain continuity across the 14,000 m² property and its 850 m² of built area. The result is a residence that not only references traditional Cycladic form but also redefines luxury through the craft and precision of natural stone. In the kitchen and bathrooms in particular, the composition of marbles and granites demonstrates how considered materiality can set the tone for contemporary living while retaining a strong connection to place.
