10 Years On, LooseLay Longboard Continues to Evolve

Karndean has updated its established LooseLay Longboard collection, introducing seven new timber-inspired designs, a P3 slip rating across the range and enhanced surface finishes, expanding design choice and specification opportunities for commercial environments.

The update marks 10 years since LooseLay Longboard launched in 2016, strengthening one of Karndean’s most recognised luxury vinyl flooring collections for designers, specifiers and contractors.

Designed around a long 1.5-metre plank format and robust 4.5 mm construction, LooseLay Longboard provides a practical flooring solution for commercial environments where design impact, installation flexibility and long-term performance are key project considerations.

Seven New Designs. Hundreds of Natural References. One Curated Collection.
The refreshed collection showcases seven new timber designs developed through Karndean’s rigorous design origination process, transforming carefully selected natural materials into flooring designs that combine authenticity, practicality and enduring appeal.

At the heart of the collection are three Ancient Australian Woods. Developed from timber references sourced from Tasmania’s remote west coast, Corinna Tasmanian Oak, West Tasmanian Oak and Balfour Blackwood celebrate the richness, depth and natural complexity of some of Australia’s most distinctive native species.

The range is further expanded with Natural Deauville Oak and Drift Deauville Oak, inspired by the weathered elegance of French coastal timber, alongside Pale Swiss Elm and Dark Swiss Elm, which reinterpret the refined grain structures and tonal nuances associated with alpine timber species from Switzerland and northern Italy.

Drawing further on the character of natural timber, the collection’s Oak designs feature precision embossing developed from multi-layered 3D digital scans of natural oak, helping to closely replicate the grain, knots and tonal variation found in real timber. Across the entire collection, an enhanced surface finish further elevates the look and feel of each design, adding greater depth and definition.

Performance-Led Specification Confidence
The update introduces a P3 slip rating across the LooseLay Longboard collection, broadening its suitability for a range of commercial and residential settings, subject to project-specific slip resistance requirements.

Karndean’s SureFit technology, featuring a fibreglass-reinforced core, enhances dimensional stability and enables installation without expansion gaps or transition strips in most applications.

For projects where substrate moisture is a consideration, LooseLay Longboard can be installed over suitable subfloors with moisture readings of up to 95% relative humidity (RH) when installed in accordance with Karndean’s installation instructions and used with the appropriate Karndean pressure-sensitive adhesive.
