Final preparations are under way for the fifth Art Month festival next month. As Sydney’s largest annual celebration of contemporary art, the festival brings together exhibitions in commercial galleries, artist-run spaces and public art galleries across the city, including a world-class line up of Australian and international artists. In 2013, Art Month delivered a creative and innovative festival with more than 300 exhibiting artists, 200 art events and 100 art spaces participating across Sydney.
The artistic director for 2014, Scrap Wall, plans to use his deep understanding of contemporary art and international perspective to create meaningful art experiences that blur the boundaries between visual art and the creative industries.
New Zealand-born Wall has many years of experience in the arts sector and is passionate about the nexus between art, fashion, object and design. As artistic director, Wall hopes to draw on his diverse range of experiences to delve further into the vitality and diversity of contemporary art in Sydney with a focus on the fluidity between creative industries. “I hope to use my diverse career experiences to bring a fresh perspective. Through Art Month, we hope to deliver new contemporary art experiences for seasoned gallery goers and first-time visitors. Above all, it will be a celebration of the imaginative, eclectic and compelling range of contemporary art on view in Sydney,” says Wall.
