BMD Wins First Contract for Brisbane 2032 Olympic Village

The first contract for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Athletes’ Village has been awarded to BMD, marking a significant milestone in the city’s preparations. The $87-million contract is part of the Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program. The early works, set to begin this month, will lay the foundation for the future Athletes’ Village.

The project is spearheaded by Economic Development Queensland, with the village to be a focal point of a massive 300-hectare waterfront development. In 2032, the precinct will host 10,000 athletes and para-athletes from around the globe, providing modern accommodation and state-of-the-art facilities in a rejuvenated urban environment.

According to the Queensland Government, the initial stages of the program include the construction of several new roads in the Northshore precinct, as well as significant upgrades to existing roads. This will feature a new sub-tropical boulevard along Macarthur Avenue, with tree-lined streets, separated cycleways, and footpaths designed to create a sun-safe, cool environment for athletes, residents, and visitors. At full maturity, 75-80 per cent of the road verges will be shaded by native trees.

Premier Miles highlighted the transformation Northshore Brisbane would undergo in preparation for the Games. “Northshore will become home to Team Australia, and incredible athletes and para-athletes from right around the world when Brisbane hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said.

The precinct’s future will extend well beyond the Games, with plans to repurpose the area into much-needed housing, including social and affordable homes, ensuring a lasting legacy for the community.

By delivering a better connected and more liveable Brisbane, this early investment is paving the way for the city’s long-term growth and success on the world stage.
