Eden Unearthed

 Eden Gardens is holding its inaugural garden festival this spring ‘Eden Unearthed’ which will feature art installations  from both established artists, as well as some fresh talent. The festival kicked off last Wednesday the 12th of October,  but don’t worry if you missed the opening night, it’s running until mid-March, giving you six months to feast your eyes  on the artwork.

It will be held at the Eden Gardens flagship store in Macquarie Park, Sydney, among the 6 acre site that consists of  function centre, cafe, retail nursery, and established display gardens. The display gardens are located near Lane Cove  National Park and take over nearly 3 acres – including around 25,000 plants, a creek, rose and perennial gardens, a  poplar forest and exhibition gardens.

Eden gardens is renowned for its commitment to the environment, with their flagship store designed to recycle and  harvest water, use natural lighting and airflow to cool the building and recycle vegetable matter throughout the site  using compost and worm farms. The gardens have a mission to improve the quality of life in the wider community  through horticulture and education, which is why Eden Unearthed also has artists working with some of the young  people from Youth off the Streets to add further works to Eden Unearthed over the coming months. Eden Unearthed  catalogues will also be available to buy for $7 with proceeds going to Father Chris Riley’s Youth off the Streets.

Simon and Anna Ainsworth, owners and directors of Eden Gardens, say of the event, “We are excited that out pleasure garden has inspired works from many genres: interactive sound and light, photographic, poetic, botanical, political, wearable and magic realism. We hope you find some installations confronting, others whimsical and witty.”
