Originally established as A and B Tool and Die Manufacturers Pty Ltd, the company specialized in press tools for Ford, General Motors, and the engineering industry.

1956 was a landmark year—not only did Melbourne host the Olympic Games, but our current Managing Director recalls watching the building of the original facility as a 12-year-old. The bricks used bore the Olympic symbol, commemorating the event

By 1966, we were producing tooling for a small seatbelt manufacturer. Seatbelts became mandatory in Victoria in new cars in 1969, and in all cars Australia wide by 1972. Australia led the world in safety standards. This surge in demand prompted us to establish our own press shop, enabling expansion into plumbing and building products—a pivotal moment that marked the birth of Abey Australia.

In 1974, James Hardie ceased asbestos flue production, creating an opportunity for innovation. By 1975, we introduced Duravent Twin Wall Gas Flue, revolutionising the plumbing industry.

In the decades that followed, Abey remained at the forefront of innovation with a series of award-winning solutions manufactured here in Australia. Highlights include the launch of the Abey Interchangeable Clipping System, the development of the Flexishaft Skylight, and the introduction of corrosion-resistant masonry products in response to the Newcastle earthquake. We also expanded into premium stainless steel kitchen sinks and a full range of kitchen and bathroom tapware.

Showrooms opened in all major capital cities. Developed the worlds only horizontal powder coating machine. We continue to expand our industrial clipping and masonry solutions.

As we celebrate seven decades of progress, our commitment to Australian Manufacturing and shaping the future of building and plumbing solutions remains stronger than ever.
