Knight Tile marks 30 years and Van Gogh celebrates 25 years of design-led luxury vinyl flooring
Karndean Designflooring is celebrating two major milestones in Australia, marking 30 years of Knight Tile and 25 years of Van Gogh ranges in gluedown format.
Both collections have played a defining role in the growth of luxury vinyl flooring in Australia. Introduced at different stages in the brand’s journey, Knight Tile and Van Gogh have helped shape how resilient flooring is specified, installed, and experienced across homes, multi-residential developments, and commercial projects.
Together, the ranges reflect Karndean’s focus on authentic replication of timbers and stones, lasting performance and adaptable style, defining the evolution of interiors for decades.
Knight Tile
When Knight Tile was first introduced, the category of luxury vinyl flooring was still emerging. Karndean identified an opportunity to bridge the gap between natural material aesthetics and practical, resilient performance. The result was a collection that delivered a look inspired by realistic timber and stone visuals, designed to replicate their natural beauty in a flooring solution that combines design flexibility with a durable, long-lasting finish.
Over time, Knight Tile has become a familiar presence in Australian interiors, appearing in spaces from contemporary homes to commercial environments.
Today, the range continues to offer a versatile range of wood and stone designs.
Its timber-inspired planks draw on the character of Traditional Oak, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, showcasing natural grain patterns and tonal variation that range from lighter contemporary finishes through to deeper, richer shades. Complementing these timber looks, the stone designs reflect the texture and movement of concrete and natural slate, offering finishes suited to a variety of interior style
The range is available in 2.0mm thickness with a 0.3mm wear layer, with a plank size of 1219.2mm x 177.8mm and tile size of 304.8mm x 457.2mm.
Van Gogh
Alongside Knight Tile’s milestone, Van Gogh also marks a significant anniversary in Australia. Since its introduction, the range has been known for showcasing the diversity and character of the world’s most distinctive timbers. Alongside classic European species such as Oak, Elm, Maple and Birch, the collection also explores quintessential Australian timber including Blackbutt and Spotted Gum.
Van Gogh also marked an important step in Karndean’s design journey, representing some of the brand’s earliest original in-house design creations developed through Karndean’s own creative process.
This diversity has allowed Van Gogh to evolve alongside interior trends, supporting a wide spectrum of spaces – from residential homes to retail and hospitality environments, while maintaining its signature balance of visual character and practical performance.
The range is available in 3.0mm thickness with a 0.55mm wear layer, with a plank size of 1219.2mm x 177.8mm.
A Legacy of Innovation
When both these iconic gluedown collections were introduced, luxury vinyl flooring was still gaining recognition within the interior category. By blending natural material inspiration with resilient flooring technology, Karndean redefined what flooring could achieve – combining aesthetic appeal, adaptability, and everyday practicality.
“Knight Tile Gluedown and Van Gogh Gluedown have each played a significant role in our journey in Australia,” said Christine Weaver, Head of Product & Marketing, Karndean Designflooring. “The gluedown format has long provided a reliable foundation for designers and installers, while the collections themselves have evolved to reflect the growing diversity of timber and stone inspired design.”
Gluedown: A Foundation of Design and Performance
Gluedown installation has been at the heart of both Knight Tile and Van Gogh since their introduction, providing a reliable foundation that supports both performance and creative flexibility. Each plank or tile adheres directly to the subfloor, ensuring stability across larger areas while enabling seamless layouts and laying patterns. Today, the ranges have evolved into dual format collections, with designs available in both gluedown and rigid core formats.
Gluedown also provides designers and installers with the flexibility to create visually dynamic spaces. By allowing layouts to flow seamlessly across larger areas, floors can help define zones, introduce a sense of movement and contribute to a cohesive design across projects of varying scale.
Its durability and versatility have made gluedown a trusted solution across residential, multi-residential and commercial environments.
By combining technical reliability with creative freedom, gluedown has remained a defining characteristic of both collections, enabling designers to realise considered layouts while maintaining long-term performance.
