Alex Milne's February 2011 Introduction

Here in the north, the start of this year has certainly been a time for digging deep and finding out who you are! Queenslanders have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of compassion and goodwill from fellow Queenslanders, from around Australia and even from overseas. As reluctant participants in the Brisbane floods, we started to feel a bit like “media tarts” because so much reporting was focussed on the Rosalie area where the KBDi office was located. It was muddy, messy and disruptive, but I’m very pleased to say we are safe and dry in temporary office accommodation and are now looking for permanent premises. Thanks to all (members and supporters) for your patience and encouragement through this very difficult time. It is sincerely appreciated.

Even though this one has been a huge challenge so far, a new year comes with the promise of new beginnings, goals and opportunities. For those who have set themselves the task of improving and investing in the future of their businesses in 2011, this first edition is sure to be an informative and inspiring read.

To help kick-start your journey on the road to success, Business Doctor Simon Hodgson shares his top 11 tips for 2011. They will help you whip your business into shape while Liz Grimmett’s experience undertaking Certificate IV in the Design of Kitchens, Bathrooms and Interior Spaces through Designer Training will have some of you itching to hit the books again. We also bring you the first details on the 2011 KBDi national conference and awards program – a must read! I am sure networking with your peers or entering this year’s awards program is high on your priority list. And for more inspiration, cast your eye over this year’s offering of new products, including Gunnersen’s Verve Eco Colours panels and the striking quattro collection from Tilo Tapware.

The KBDi team is confident that this year will be big one…and a fabulous one! Join us on the journey.
