Some homes possess remarkable street appeal, often achieved through the thoughtful layering of exterior materials. This approach adds depth and visual interest to the design while allowing for more personalised detailing and architectural expression throughout the project.
Layering various exterior materials adds depth to design and allows for more personalised detailing within projects. Concrete, brick, stone and timber have long been typical go to materials, selected to enhance the appearance of a home and frame glazing to achieve different architectural outcomes. While many exterior materials lean toward harder finishes, they are often softened through the introduction of greenery, supporting our growing desire for biophilic design principles. The addition of RE/8™ bio-circular architectural mesh by Kaynemaile® introduces another way to soften exterior design while maintaining a refined architectural aesthetic.
Designers have embraced the benefits of incorporating the mesh into residential projects, appreciating the visual aesthetics it offers along with its ability to pair cohesively with the timeless materials commonly used throughout contemporary façades. The lightweight, flowing appearance of the mesh introduces texture and depth, while still maintaining a sophisticated and visually balanced outcome.
RE/8™ bio-circular architectural offers an alternative solution for privacy screening while also assisting with solar protection, an increasingly important consideration with evolving sustainability requirements in residential construction. The mesh acts as a barrier to excessive heat entering the home, yet from the inside looking out, it visually softens and almost disappears to maintain unobstructed views. For homes such as this Gold Coast residence, it becomes an ideal solution for retaining views toward the city skyline while still delivering privacy and shading benefits throughout the day.
The introduction of Kaynemaile® mesh paved the way in its early days for commercial projects to embrace an alternative to the metal products predominantly used for carpark screening. These often large scale projects quickly recognised the benefits of working with the unique mesh due to its ability to be manufactured to unlimited sizes, opening the door to a different mindset around what could be achieved in façade design.
This project is an excellent example of how beautifully Kaynemaile mesh can also be integrated into the design of a modern residential exterior. And given the close proximity to the ocean, it’s polycarbonate composition offers a low maintenance screening solution.
The stunning Gold Coast home was designed by award winning Gold Coast architect Lea Design Studio, a boutique architectural practice focused on producing innovative, functional and aesthetically inspiring designs for its clients.
